Ultrasound Services

An ultrasound is an imaging test that uses sound waves to produce images of the body. Most people know of ultrasound for its use during pregnancy, but this imaging test can be used in many different situations.

Ultrasounds are often used to examine the following:

  • Liver
  • Kidneys
  • Thyroid gland
  • Bladder
  • Uterus and ovaries
  • Gallbladder
  • Stomach
  • Aorta (heart)

What Happens During an Ultrasound?

During your ultrasound, you will lie on a table while a gel is applied over the examination area. A transducer (wand) is then run over the area and releases soundwaves which are fed back into the transducers (wands). These soundwaves will create a live feed video image on a nearby monitor for your doctor to examine.

You may be asked to stop eating or drinking for several hours before your exam. In some cases, however, you may need to have a full bladder and should drink plenty of liquids. Make sure you review your preparation instructions.

You can call us at (800) 828-3627 if you need to review your preparation instructions for an ultrasound.
