Our story begins with Dr. Jake Riegel, a military doctor who served during World War I until he returned to St. Croix Falls in 1919, where he saw a need for quality healthcare. He opened the first hospital in his wife's family home, the Baker House, which later grew into St. Croix Valley Memorial Hospital and then a separate clinic, River Valley Medical Center. In 1999, the clinic and hospital merged to become the St. Croix Regional Medical Center, now St. Croix Health.
